AWS can't restore Bahrain and a UAE zone, six months after the drones

Two stories today about infrastructure that everyone assumed was recoverable: a cloud region that isn't coming back, and a bug bounty pipeline a criminal turned into a payday. Amazon Web Services told customers it cannot restore its Bahrain region or one of its three availability zones in the United Arab Emirates, more than six months after drone strikes damaged the sites — its first public update since April.

UBTECH switches on a factory that builds a humanoid every 10 minutes

Physical AI's bottleneck just moved: China can now print humanoids at ten-thousand-unit scale, and the honest question is who's buying them. UBTECH Robotics has commissioned the world's first humanoid production line designed for ten-thousand-unit annual capacity, in Liuzhou, Guangxi. The "super smart factory" covers 14,000 square meters and is engineered to finish one industrial humanoid every 10 minutes, building the Walker S and Cruzr lines.

Waymo spotted a ghost gun in its back seat and called the cops

Two AI-driven systems decided on their own to summon police this week — a robotaxi that read a gun, and a camera company's installer who read a journalist. Both landed the same way: humans in handcuffs, and no human reviewer in the loop until it was over. Waymo detected a loaded ghost gun riding in one of its cars in San Francisco, pulled the vehicle over, and called police, who arrested two juvenile passengers.

A robot-vision founder says peers faked revenue — one is named

China's embodied-AI money trail just got audited by a competitor, and the auditor is a supplier that went public twelve days ago. Shao Tianlan, founder of robot-vision component maker Mech-Mind, posted on WeChat Moments that several Chinese embodied-AI companies — including, in his comment replies, Galaxy General Robot — manufacture fake, unsustainable revenue through so-called "data collection centers" and related-party deals with local governments, investors and suppliers.

Motus2: a robot world model that grades its own actions

Shengshu Technology, the Chinese world-model lab, shipped the rare robotics release where the loop actually closed: one model that acts, imagines, and scores itself — then learns from the grade. Shengshu released Motus2, a "self-evolving" general world model for dexterous manipulation that puts three capabilities — acting, predicting, and evaluating — inside one shared-parameter video-action model, according to the project page and the paper on arXiv.

Ex-Li Auto execs raise nine figures for a robot foundation model

Robot brains and AI infrastructure drew the money this hour: a Chinese embodied-model lab run by two of Li Auto's most senior AI executives closed a nine-figure angel round, and one of OpenAI's most visible former leaders resurfaced on the board of a data-center company heading for an IPO. Xieyue Intelligence has raised several hundred million yuan in an angel-plus round, announced September 12, with Linear Capital, Junshan Capital, Hongyi Capital and Yinshan Capital participating.

Mecka AI nears $500 million valuation as Sequoia bets on robot training data

The money chasing physical AI just moved from the robots to the data that teaches them. Mecka AI, a two-year-old startup that pays people to record everyday tasks for humanoid-robot training, is reportedly nearing a Sequoia-led round at roughly a $500 million valuation — its second raise in three months. Mecka AI is closing in on a new round led by Sequoia Capital at a valuation of about $500 million, according to two people with knowledge of the deal — just three months after the startup…

A puzzle app spent $220 on Google app ads — 60% of the installs were robots

A one-dev indie studio just published the cleanest writeup we've seen of why "installs" is the most dangerous number in mobile advertising: a bot farm found his $220 budget, Google billed him for it, and the ad algorithm rewarded the fraud at every step. Nick Abe, the developer behind the puzzle app Dayzle, ran a Google Ads campaign for Android at CA$40 a day with the goal set to installs — and when he removed his cost-per-install target after a slow start, the campaign immediately spent…

Alipay's payment robot dog went shopping — agentic commerce gets its first legs

Shanghai, Inclusion·The Bund Summit: Ant Group's Alipay moved AI payments from "agents can pay" to "agents can pay trustworthily", and the demo that stole the show has four legs. **Alipay put a payment rail inside a robot dog — and a trust layer around every AI transaction.** At the 2026 Inclusion·The Bund Summit in Shanghai, Ant Group CEO Han Xinyi said the "ChatGPT moment" of agent commerce has arrived, and Alipay backed the claim with a full stack: three new "AI Collect" monetization rails…

Amap's world model builds a 3D city in 10 minutes on one GPU

Alibaba's mapping arm used its Street Stars anniversary to make a bigger claim: it now has a world model that generates explorable 3D space, not just renders it. Two smaller stories round out the hour — a computer-vision benchmark that found audio evidence beats extra parameters, and a fresh report that reasoning state can still be replayed into another model. Alibaba's Amap released ABot-Earth 0.7, a 3D-native world model that turns a single satellite image or a text prompt into a…
