Deep Dive — Congress has the data center numbers, still no bill

A yearlong Senate investigation into seven of the biggest data center developers in the country concluded this week that the public case for the AI buildout does not survive the companies' own paperwork — and it landed at the exact moment Congress needs it, because the one federal bill written to make data centers pay for their own power fell three votes short of advancing in the Senate, despite passing the House 417-3.

Open Source Radar — October 9: plugins, sandboxes, tokens

Today's open-source signal is infrastructure rather than hype: Microsoft's code sandbox reaches 1.0, Anthropic's knowledge-worker plugins keep climbing, a beloved token counter flips its default, and LocalLLaMA squeezes a usable 2B model into about 700 MB. knowledge-work-plugins (Python, ~27,900 stars, Apache-2.0) — Anthropic's repository of role-shaped plugins for Claude Cowork is the top AI repository on today's daily trending page, and the stars keep coming: roughly 2,100 more than when we…

T-Head, Alibaba's chip subsidiary, published a fresh round of open-source releases for T-Head SAIL on September 23 — the CUDA-style stack that sits between PyTorch and its homegrown Zhenwu accelerators — one day after unveiling the Zhenwu V900, which Alibaba CEO Wu Yongming called the most compute-capable…
