Figmimic turns any webpage into editable Figma layers

The most useful design tool of the weekend is 15 lines of JavaScript. Figmimic, a bookmarklet from B12 engineer Andrew Musselman, copies any webpage you're looking at into Figma as fully editable frames — real nesting, real layers, not a flat screenshot — via a single click from the bookmarks bar. It hit the Hacker News front page on Friday and has been making the rounds among designers since. What makes it more than a novelty is reach.

OpenAI's price war gambit: GPT-5.6 Sol tokens get 20% cheaper for 90 days

OpenAI picked the eve of its rival's roadshow to cut developers a deal. A three-month, 20-percent-plus discount on its flagship model — announced hours after Anthropic's bankers floated a $2 trillion IPO — is business warfare conducted in a price list. OpenAI said Friday it is cutting API and credit prices for GPT-5.6 Sol by more than 20 percent for the next three months, taking the frontier model to $4 per million input tokens and $20 per million output tokens.

Micron opens $10B AI and memory research lab in Boise

Two moves today show where the AI race is being won — in the memory fabs and the image APIs. Micron is betting a decade of research dollars on keeping the physical substrate of AI on U.S. soil, while OpenAI quietly closes one of the last annoying gaps in generative image work. Micron unveiled Micron Research Labs, a U.S.-based research institution in Boise, Idaho, backed by a planned $10 billion investment over the next decade.

AI 101 — What is model quantization?

A large language model is a giant bag of numbers. Quantization is the trick of shrinking those numbers so the model takes up less memory and runs faster — usually with only a small, barely-noticeable drop in quality. If you have ever tried to run a powerful open-weight model on your own laptop and watched it choke, quantization is the reason some people can and some can't. It is also why a phone can now hold an assistant that, a couple of years ago, needed a rack of servers.

Adobe puts generative AI music, speech, and sound effects in Firefly

Adobe has opened the audio doors on Firefly. The company announced general availability of in-app generators for music, speech, and sound effects, turning its creative AI studio into a one-stop shop for AI-made sound that's pitched as safe for commercial use. The three tools landed together. Generate Music, built on the Firefly Music Model, produces original, universally licensed tracks matched to a video's length and mood, so a creator doesn't have to chase down clearance for a clip.

Mojo compiler goes open source under Apache 2.0

Modular has thrown open the source for Mojo, the systems programming language it built for the AI-accelerator era, releasing the full compiler and toolchain under the Apache 2.0 license (with LLVM exceptions) on GitHub. For a language that spent four years in public development behind a closed compiler, this is the unlock that turns Mojo from a vendor experiment into something the wider community can actually own. Modular has open-sourced the entire Mojo compiler and toolchain under Apache…

AI 101 — What is synthetic data?

Synthetic data is information generated by a computer — not collected from the real world — that mimics the patterns, structure, and statistical properties of real data well enough to train an AI model. It is one of the most important tools in modern AI development, and one of the least understood. Every major lab is using it, many products depend on it, and the debate over whether it is good enough to replace real-world data is shaping where the field goes next. Why it matters right…

Cursor launches Origin, a GitHub rival for agents

The AI coding tool that just sold for sixty billion dollars is done borrowing someone else's git host. Cursor began rolling out Origin today — its own code-hosting service — in early beta on every paid plan, with repos, pull requests, code browsing, and live GitHub sync in the first cut. Agent-native features, the company says, ship soon. Origin lives in a new Codebase tab inside the editor. Create a repo, push, and the code is hosted on Cursor.
